It's another snow day!
I actually spent most of the morning watching the news and even watched a few movies! Then I got hungry.. I chef'd up some shrimp, steam veggies and french fries! It was DELISH! And what can I say about my snack table?!! There's a story about them (Yes, there are two of these!) So I bought these snack tables from Bed, Bath an Beyond a few years ago. They were originally a dark chestnut color. Well, one night while doing my manicure, I spilled nail polish remover on one and..... let's just say, nail polish remover also removes paint too. So here I was with one table in good condition and the other: a paint-stripped eye sore. I had an idea! I'll paint it yellow! I made it a weekend project! Got the paint. Protected my floor. And painted my tables. After I completed my project, I learned: I bought the wrong paint! It was oil based and everything stuck to the tables. One day, I mentioned it to my father! Without hesitation, he said he'll 'hook me up'! And that he did! I chose the 'grey-iege' (grey/beige blend) color to match my space and I dropped off the tables to my parent's house! My mom told me about how diligently my dad sanded worked on my tables! I gave him creative freedom and Voila! My DIY... My Dad's DIY tables!

It's snowing in New York today.
It makes for a tougher commute around town, but I still have lots to get done inside. In case you didn't know, I'm also an entrepreneur. I am a Human Resources Consultant. The E Riley HR Group provides Human Resources to small businesses, churches and schools. Since I've chosen not to run my errands today, I decided to use this time to complete some business related tasks. Of course some of my favorite movies are playing in the background, but I've got a policy and procedure manual that needs to be submitted to a client first thing Monday morning! That's how I spend my snow day! See you soon busy streets of New York! "No now really knows why they are alive until they know what they'd die for" --Martin Luther King, Jr. On Monday, January 19, 2015 we celebrated the life of this great man. The only non-president with a national holiday in his honor. The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the Brooklyn Borough President has held the 29 year tradition of bringing Brooklyn and neighboring cities together to celebrate the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, the guest speaker was one of my all-time favorite teachers: the prominent intellectual, Dr. Cornel West! Dr. West expressed (as only he can) that every year MLK Day "Santa Clausifies" Dr. King. West said if Dr. King were to comment on today, he would exclaim: "What a land of spiritual malnutrition and moral constipation!" Dr. Cornel West's message reminded us of how Dr. King lived, the origin of his fight and energized us for how far we still have left to go. Thanks for the invite, Dad! I had a great time! Be prepared for an entertaining day after you accept an invite from the one and only Bobby Trendz!
Bobby and I have been friends for years and shortly after meeting and finding so many things in common, our relationship was reclassified: we are family! And just like family, we celebrate each other, argue with each other, stick up for each other and encourage each other. We have such fun times together! Passing thru local events to road trips for any reason. More recently, we have added a few Sunday rituals to the list. One of the new things is: Brunch! Today, we went to Midtown Manhattan's premier dining destination: Pennsylvania 6. When not catering to NY's trendiest at meal time, you can find contemporary sports enthusiasts at its bar and red leather banquettes. Stay tuned for more of my trips to cool restaurants and of course, more Bobby Trendz! I enjoy starting my day off without a rush or a mad-dash out to the world.
Before I tackle my usually long task list, I luxuriate! There's nothing like taking a few minutes to sit back in my little palace, catch up on morning news & shows, respond to texts & emails, scroll & double-tap through Instagram... And all with a cute cup of tea (honey, no sugar!) & cozy slippers are also a must.
